ISLAMABAD — October 27, 2026 — Top Pakistani leadership on Tuesday reaffirmed the nation’s steadfast moral, diplomatic, and political backing for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on Kashmir Black Day, calling on the international community to facilitate a peaceful resolution in accordance with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

Call for International Intervention on Human Rights

In official messages issued to mark October 27—the day Indian troops landed in Srinagar in 1947—President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid homage to generations of Kashmiris who have sacrificed their lives in the pursuit of self-determination.

President Zardari urged the United Nations and global human rights bodies to take immediate notice of ongoing fundamental rights violations in IIOJK. He emphasized that lasting peace, regional stability, and economic prosperity across South Asia remain directly tied to resolving the core dispute according to the democratic aspirations of the Kashmiri population.

“The day is not far off when the people of Jammu and Kashmir will be able to determine their own future in accordance with their aspirations, and the Jammu and Kashmir dispute will move towards a just and peaceful resolution,” President Zardari stated.

Rejection of Unilateral Actions Since August 2019

According to statements reviewed by Umeed News, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that India’s unilateral measures since August 5, 2019—aimed at altering the constitutional, legal, and demographic status of the occupied territory—continue to draw severe concern.

PM Shehbaz condemned the ongoing detention of Kashmiri political leaders, human rights defenders, and activists, reiterating that coercion and militarization cannot extinguish the legitimate political aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He reaffirmed that Pakistan will maintain its principled stance and consistently elevate the Kashmir cause at every international forum until a just, peaceful settlement under international law is achieved.
